State makes proposal to rename Chennai Central after MGR

According to recent reports, the State Cabinet made a proposal to the Centre on Monday to rename the famous Chennai Central railway station. It made a recommendation to name the station after former Chief Minister Dr MG Ramachandran.

Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar confirmed the reports after the Cabinet meeting at the Secretariat. Speaking to the press, he pointed out the birth centenary of MGR and said that in his honour Chennai Central should be renamed.

The State also sought for the grant of Bharat Ratna for former CM CN Annadurai. Jayakumar mentioned the efforts and contributions of Annadurai and stated that it will only be fitting if the Bharat Ratna is conferred on him.
