12-year-old Chennai boy becomes world’s second youngest Grandmaster.

According to reports, Praggnanandhaa, a 12-year-old boy from Chennai, has made a history by becoming the world’s second youngest and India’s youngest Grandmaster after reaching the final round of the ongoing Gredine Open in Italy. The boy has achieved the feat at the age of 12 years, 10 months and 13 days.


Ukraine's Sergey Karjakin became the youngest grandmaster at 12 years and 7 months in 1990. Reportedly, Praggnanandhaa became the youngest International Master in 2016 when he was 10 years, 10 months and 19 days old.


India’s first Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand congratulated the boy, who had earlier won the GM title in World Juniors 2017 in Greece. The five-time world champion wrote on Twitter, “Welcome to the club & congrats Praggnanandhaa!! See u soon in Chennai?”
