"You cannot go beyond Kohli in a run chase. I would bet my life on Kohli." - Nasser Hussain.
When someone has 25 Test centuries, 41 ODI centuries to go with 10,000 plus runs and he is only 30 years old, he has to be a great player and Virat Kohli is a great player. He is a very passionate cricketer with tremendous mental strength. This quality of his was very evident early on in his career when he played an incredible innings of 90 for Delhi in the Ranji Trophy just after his father had passed away. He also led the Under-19 team to victory in the 2008 World cup.

Virat Kohli gets 84 vs KKR and how he as come this far as a cricketer

We all know the kind of record he has maintained over the years and he just makes all the batting records that exist look very silly. But apart from just numbers, we have seen so much transformation from him over the years, mentally, physically, and technically.

As a youngster, he was this fiery person with a lot of anger and aggression. Over the years, he has managed to control that anger and aggression and focus it on his game. When sledging was becoming a tactic to use against batsman, Virat Kohli was one player opposition didn’t want to sledge.

When he first came as a youngster into the Indian team, he got good starts and showed signs of his talent but didn't convert his starts to big scores. Picked for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, he was not able to create the kind of impact he wanted initially. After the IPL in 2012, he decided that without fitness, he will not be able to achieve the greatness that he was after. Since then, he really has been an inspiration for many others in the team as well, which is a great change that he has managed to bring into the Indian team. This is one of the reasons why India has become a very good fielding side as well. His ability to stay longer at the crease and play big knocks is a result of his fitness.

Even technically, he was not the most correct batsman and had weaknesses in his batting, but the difference is that he was ready to put in the effort and convert the weakness into his strength. For instance, before his first tour to Australia in 2012, there were talks about his weakness against the short ball, but he worked hard at it and came back strong against the short ball and is now one of the best players of the pull and hook shot.
In 2014, Virat Kohli really struggled in England against the swinging ball and scored just 134 runs in the 5 match series at an average of 13.40. Once again, he worked hard against the moving ball and altered his technique. Playing in England in the 2018 series, he emerged as the leading run scorer where he got 593 runs in the 5 match series at an average of 59.30.

He became India's test captain in 2014 following MS Dhoni's retirement and got limited overs captaincy in 2017. With a win percentage of 56.52% in test and 73.88 in ODI, he is one of the most successful captains for India. He is also the first captain to win a test series in Australia. In spite of these records, there has been some criticism on him. Although he is not yet perfect as captain, he is not the kind of person who is going to give up, rather he will definitely find ways to improve and get better.

This year, RCB have been struggling with 5 straight loses, but Virat Kohli, the batsman has never been far away from getting a big one, and against the Kolkata Knight Riders, we saw what he is capable of getting a brilliant 84 from just 49 balls. Going into the world cup, Virat Kohli will be the most important player and if he plays the way he has been for a long time now, India will go a long way in winning the worldcup.
