Hardik Pandya, the energetic all-rounder, has been the kind of player that India were looking for some time to get the balance of the team right since India has not produced a lot of pace bowling all rounders.

Hardik Pandya\'s rise, importance to Indian cricket and Mumbai Indians

From being a batsman who can bowl leg spin until the age of 18, he turned into a batsman who bowls pace since his coach at Baroda had forced him to. Although he didn't score heavily or take a lot of wickets in the domestic circuit, some of the innings he played, showed his potential and hence the match-winning ability that he has is what made people notice him.

He made his IPL debut with the Mumbai Indians in the 2015 season and his innings against CSK where he scored 21 off just 8 balls brought him to the limelight. Soon after, he got selected to play for India and he made a name for himself when he bowled the famous final over against Bangladesh in the Super 10 match of the T20 world cup which helped India win a tight game. One of his incredible innings came in a losing cause against Pakistan in the 2017 Champions trophy, where he scored 76 runs from just 43 balls after a top-order collapse of 54/5.

He also made his test debut against Srilanka in 2017 and scored a magnificent 108 off just 96 balls in the final test that announced him at the test stage.

He has been an important member of the Indian team as well as the Mumbai Indians who retained him for 11 crores in 2018. His best IPL season came in 2018 where he scored 260 runs to go with 18 wickets.

Coming into this years IPL, he didn't have too much cricket behind him as he was out with injury and controversy. He has admitted that it was tough for him to sit out and has been rigorously working on this game during the time. This effort is clearly evident from his performances for the Mumbai Indians this year, particularly with the bat. His scores in the last 3 innings have been 32*(14), 31(19) and 25*(8) which has really made the difference for the Mumbai Indians. His bowling has also come together in the game against CSK where he picked up 3 wickets for just 20 runs.

He is the best allrounder for India at the moment and is one of the most important players for India in this World cup considering his match-winning ability and the balance that he brings to the team. He should use this IPL to get match fit and work on his bowling which will help him excel at the world cup.
