At Chennai, in the first qualifier match between the Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians, Dhoni won the toss and elected to bat first.

In the last over against Bumrah, MS Dhoni who was trying to launch big sixes miscued a low full toss as the ball went to the point fielder Ishan Kishan who caught it and at the same time, the bat slipped out of his hand and went to the opposite side.

Just as Dhoni was walking away, the umpire asked him to wait and wanted to check for the no-ball. As suspected by the umpires, Bumrah didn't have enough behind the line and was called a no-ball. Dhoni got a chance to bat for a few more deliveries after that.
