The Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to bat first.

Quinton De Kock was the mainstay who glued the innings together as he ended up with an unbeaten 69 from 58 balls but it was a slightly slow innings by his standards. Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Pandya, and Pollard chipped in with cameos as they got to 162 in the 20 overs. They would have felt that they were 10-15 runs short at the halfway stage on this pitch.

SRH in return got off to a good start but slowly lost their way as wickets kept falling. Manish Pandey was once again playing well at one end keeping the score ticking. He didn't get any support from the middle order which has been an area of concern for the SRH throughout this season. Mohammad Nabi, however, walked in at the end as he fit a few big blows and finished with 31 from 20 balls. As it came to 7 needed off the last ball with Hardik Pandya bowling, Manish Pandey smashed a 6 and hence it went to a super over.
