IPL Auction 2018: 5 Important things to know

While the eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League is all set to start on April 4, one of the most important features of IPL - the auction for players - will happen on Saturday and Sunday. Here’s what you need to know about this year’s auction.

  1. This year’s auction will be an all-encompassing one as the ‘10 year rule’ has to be followed this year. The rule states that all players have to be made available in the pool. However, teams were allowed to 'Retain' players that they don't want to miss.
  2. The salary cap for players has been increased. The cap for each team has gone up to Rs 80 crore compared to last year’s Rs 66 crores.
  3. This year, each team can keep a maximum of eight players from other countries.
  4. The cap for players lower category has been increased to Rs 50 lakhs and Rs 75 lakhs.
  5. Teams can use only three RTMs during the auction regardless of how many players they retained in the aforementioned lists submitted on January 4.
