AFTER PRIYANKA REDDY'S MURDER, REAL 'NIRBHAYA NUMBER' REVEALED FOR WOMEN SAFETY

Of late, there has been a WhatsApp forward message pitching Women Safety -  "9833312222 - Please forward this number to your mother, sister, friend and all those women you know in your circle. Kindly ask them to save this number on their mobile phones.  In case of any emergency, just tell them to send a blank message to this number. The police officers will receive the message along with the location details and necessary assistance will be sent to the location within minutes"

The above message has been widely circulated via WhatsApp after the sexual assault and murder of Hyderabad Veterinarian doctor Priyanka reddy. Reportedly the number provided in the forward message is not in use. After the brutal rape and murder of Nirbhaya in 2012, the UP government sought Nirbhaya's parents and designed a Mobile App which was called as 'Nirbhaya App'.

Since the app development is in initial stages, only the beta version has been widely used in Nodia, UP as per the Vikatan report. Meanwhile, 9833312222 provided in the Women Safety message is reported to be the one launched by Mumbai Railway Police in 2015 for women's safety in Mumbai trains. Later it was revealed that the number is not in use.

The Central Government announced 181 for Women Saftey which also had some issues with the connectivity. Therefore the real working 'Nirbhaya Number' for women safety across all the states is 1091. Therefore, the following corrected message shall be forwarded across social networks.

"1091- Please forward this number to your mother, sister, friend and all those women you know in your circle.
