Soon after the voting got over on May 19, media houses, journalist and poll-pundits conducted exit polls and predicted a win for the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance in the Lok Sabha elections 2019. But May 23 marked to be a big day, where BJP was comfortable in the lead this General Election. They surged ahead in 349 out of the 542 Lok Sabha seats.

Watch: Man breaks down on live TV after his agency\'s exit poll results

According to India Today reports, election survey agency Axis My India’s Chairman and Managing Director Pradeep Gupta broke down during a live debate after the leads in Lok Sabha election results proved to be in sync with his organisation’s exit poll figures. Axis My India had conducted its exit poll in association with India Today.

The exit poll results have been proven true, despite the criticism around their validity and extrapolation of data, India Today reports.

It was an emotional moment for Pradeep Gupta, because during the Exit Poll he had predicted 339-365 seats for the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The India Today-Axis My India Exit Poll, which surveyed more than 8 lakh voters, had predicted that United Progressive Alliance will grab 77 to 108 seats in the Lok Sabha elections.

But on election result day, Pradeep finally cried tears of vindication. He broke down on national television, as trends showed that India Today and Axis My India had proven the naysayers wrong. "I had full faith in my team who has been working rigorously for the past 40 days in each and every Lok Sabha constituency and also assembly constituencies. Training [to ask the right questions] was the major part of our success story so far. Our 500+ field force is our strength," said Gupta.
