The Lok Sabha elections were held across the country in 7 phases starting April 11. TN voted on April 18th in a single phase. The vote counting is being held today on May 23.

Pragya Thakur leads over Digvijay Singh

Sadhvi Pragya Thakur, 48, an accused in the 2008 Malegaon blasts who spent nine years in jail, joined the BJP in April - nearly three years after being cleared of charges under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act or MCOCA. She faces other charges for the series of bombings that killed six people and injured more than 100 in Maharashtra's Malegaon in 2008, reports NDTV.

She contested against Congress's former CM Digvijay Singh. She has said several controversial statements during campaign which includes cow urine curing her cancer, cursing 26/11 hero Hemanth Karkare, calling Godse a patriot, and also admitted to TV9 that she was among the people who demolished the Babri Masjid on December 6, 1992 and she was "proud" of it.

She got 812425 votes, 61.3% of the total votes recorded. Digvijay Singh, ex-CM of Madhya Pradesh, got 476202 votes, which is 35.9% of the total votes as of 6.30PM.
