Travellers may only have to pay for the distance they travel on highways

The government is reportedly planning a distance-based toll system for travel on highways which will allow travelers to pay only for the distance they travel on highways. Transport and Highways secretary Yudhvir Singh Malik reportedly said that instead of a close toll policy, an open toll policy through intelligent transport management system will be implemented so that travelers can pay toll only for the stretch of the road that they use. He also added that the policy will be implemented within a year. Many countries such as US, Australia have been doing trials on the distance-based electronic tolling as well.
