Assam police has arrested a 50-year old man recently. Allegedly, he attempted to have sex with the dead body of a 14- year old girl. The child died under mysterious circumstances a few days ago. Her body was buried along the Simen river by her family member.
The place where the incident occurred, falls under the limits of Silpathar Police station in Assam’s Dhemaji district.
The minor died on May 17 and buried in the banks. On May 18, local fishermen saw a person attempting to rape that girl’s corpse. They caught the man and handed him over the police.
He was identified as Akan Sajkia. The accused confessed to the police that he dug up the grave and took the girl’s body out to have sex with it.
According to India Today’s report, Police arrested Saikia and registered a case against him at Silapathar police station under sections 306 and 377 of the IPC and Section 8 of the POCSO Act.
"The accused does not appear to be suffering from a mental disorder. Earlier in 2018, his wife had lodged a FIR that led to his arrest. A case was registered against him under Section 498 (A) of IPC on the basis of his wife's complaint. He was absconding and police arrested him in September 2019 and he was jailed by a court," DSP Pradip Konwar told India Today.
Reportedly, rumours among locals mention that sexual harassment by Sajkia was the reason behind the minor girl’s death. The investigation is ongoing and the court ordered to send the accused to jail.
