40 dead after dust storm hits Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday

Over 45 people died after a dust storm hit Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday. Reportedly, the storm tore down trees and destroyed many thatched roofs. Even though the storm hit Delhi, no major losses were reported there. Due to the intense rain at the national capital, 15 flights had to be diverted including two international flights.

 

Rajasthan also faced dust storms resulting in the death of 27 people. Reportedly, the Chief Ministers of both the states have announced compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured.

 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted his condolences and said, "Saddened by the loss of lives due to dust storms in various parts of India. Condolences to the bereaved families. May the injured recover soon. Have asked officials to coordinate with the respective state governments and work towards assisting those who have been affected."
