After the blockbuster Rowdy Rathore, most of Prabhudheva's (yes, that's how his name is spelt in Bollywood) films as a director have bitten the dust. His films are all unabashedly loud and extravagant and, more often than not, feature the biggest superstars in the land. In Singh is Bliing, Prabhu returns with his lucky mascot Akshay Kumar who reprises a Sardaar role after his superhit Singh is Kinng a few years back. The duo is joined by the flawlessly hot Amy Jackson, who is aptly cast as a Romanian who naturally doesn't know any Hindi and lets her kickass action moves speak more than her words.

Singh is Bliing is slapstick comedy most of the way and this repetitive pattern gets tedious quickly. A mature-looking Lara Dutta (playing a translator) gets a fair share of these slapstick scenes and the director could have kept them much briefer. But Lara has performed without inhibitions and we have to give it to her, for that.

Looking beyond the film's shallow seen-before content and some unimaginative song placements, if we are still able to endure the film, the lion's share of the credit should go to Akshay Kumar who owns the part of Raftaar Singh - a naive, jobless, good-natured Sardaar who moves to Goa from his home in Punjab to earn a living. He encounters Amy Jackson over there, and inevitably love blooms. Amy's role brings about the conflicts in the tale. Then, there is a fair share of sentiment involving parents and some caricatured, showy villainy (Kay Kay Menon, with an atrocious wig, is reduced to being a clown).

With among the best physiques in business, well-groomed facial hair and sporting a 'pagdi', Akki is an 'asli' Sardaar on screen. Towards the end, we see a natural heroic turn in his character and even then, the comic simpleton image of his is maintained. A sure treat for his fans, this one is.

Amy is super-convincing and all style, swag in her action scenes which have been slickly choreographed. It is a role reversal of sorts as Amy is the dominant partner until the end, when she is forced to turn the helpless damsel in distress. Of course, there is plenty of skin show from the supple Brit babe, with a bikini scene to boot. There is something so transfixing about her and it is a delight to see her on screen.

Prabhudheva's films are assured of foot-tapping songs and peppy choreography, and Singh is Bliing is no different. The opening track 'Tung Tung' is the best of the lot. When a film has 'bling' in its title, it is a given that the visuals are expected to be bright, colorful and spanning some picturesque locations (Punjab, Goa, Romania). The run time of the film is a bearable 140 odd mins.

In all, Singh is Bliing is a much better outing, compared to Prabhu's recent disasters like Action Jackson and Rajkumar, thanks to the lead pair. If you are someone who enjoys mindless comedy then you ought to enjoy it even more. Switch off your brains for some harmless fun.
Verdict: Akshay Kumar and Amy Jackson make us sit through
