U-Turn is a Tamil remake of its Kannada namesake, which was also directed by Pawan Kumar. This helps the movie at various places, as the director certainly knows the essence of the original. This Samantha starrer is the story of a reporter who is writing a story on the accidents that happen on a particular flyover. However, that leads her into big trouble. Whether she is able to come out of it or not forms the crux of the story.

Samantha has made a string of good signings post-marriage and this one too follows suit. She plays a terrific Rachana and is ably supported by Aadhi Pinisetty and other supporting characters.

The film is technically strong, thanks to Niketh Bommi's visuals and music by Poorna Chandra Tejaswi. The music lifts the film several notches higher than what it is supposed to be. These technicalities set this thriller apart from the others. At various junctures, the film might make you feel like you understand everything, and yet, the director is always one step ahead of you.

U-Turn has a crispy run time of just over 2 hours and manages to keep you fairly engaged. However, the director seems to be in a rush to end the film, and it takes a lot of tropes that you may see in a usual thriller. By the time the major twist is unveiled, we have a slight idea of what it is. The bland interval block too, doesn't raise much curiosity, which is a very important element for a film of this genre.

The detailing gone into this film is highly intriguing and there is no doubt about it. Pawan Kumar uses the visuals to carry the story forward. There is a horseshoe falling down in a house, suggesting that the person has run out of luck. A few moments later, he is killed. During the opening credits of the film, we repeatedly hear the word 'Karma' in the background score, and the film is based on that theme. Rather than just being the premise, the flyover comes off as a character by itself and that is something very impressive.
