Why do you think cloud gazing is one of the fondest memories of many creative minds from their childhood? Because, this session always enabled one to create their own stories with a set of presumptions that were self derived. And at times those stories became so interesting that it got promoted to few storytelling sessions or even a novel. Here in case of U Turn, director Pawan Kumar seems to have had a ‘road gazing” session and eventually has stumbled upon a tale that is worth narrating as a film.

The above few lines may make this story sound as a simple one, infact it is simple but the genre in which he chooses to present does all the magic. Thriller’s have the advantage of dictating the audience's attention and U Turn is no exception on that regard. A well conceived story with perseverance to narrate it with style and aesthetics makes any viewer appreciate the mastermind, behind the venture.

Shraddha Srinath as a baffled yet inquisitive journalist makes the audience sympathise with her situation and it should be noted that major part of the narration has been shouldered by the bold and beautiful lady who is here to stay. All the other names on the cast list compliment the story well.

When even veteran storytellers believe in the relief songs, dance and comedy give to a narration, here is a man who has to be appreciated for the bold decision of completely doing away with songs. This has enhanced the fluidity of the story. On the other hand neat work on the BGM by Poornachandra Tejaswi reiterates the mood of the film.

The efforts and hard work gone behind the lens shows off clearly as every scene unfolds. Special mention to the editor Suresh too who makes sure we gain an obstacle free experience.

No film can be given the tag 100% perfect, may be that is why still the art of filmmaking or even the practice of movie watching still exists. In case of U Turn, the climax might not go well with all the viewers. Some might think that the climax drifted way away from reality or lost the connect of the audience that had been built. Afterall do not forget that this is indeed a simple story which might look complex because of its genre. Directorial touch by playing around with the symbol/letter ‘U’ definitely makes one say “woooo”

Overall, Pawan Kumar is yet again showing to Indian cinema his existence and brilliance in the art of storytelling.

Verdict: Compulsory ‘U’ Turn for movie buffs!
