A.Venkatesh, the director who made movies like Aai, Kuthu and Bhagavathi seems to have been attracted by the comedy trending in today’s cinema, pushing him to venture out with a full length comedy feature. Thaman Kumar has played the lead opposite Vibha Natarajan and Archana who share portions of the female lead. A. Venkatesh has packed his deck with actors like Power Star, Thambi Ramaiah, Erode Mahesh, Crane Manohar and a few others to play out the comedy elements in the film.

Although the director has picked up a good set of cards to churn out a rollicking comedy entertainer, his ambitious attempt has simply turned out to unsuccessful.

The story revolves around a young man, played by Thaman Kumar, who comes to Chennai to earn some quick money. A few so called twists in the story make him the husband of a girl in coma and the son in law of a multi millionaire in Malaysia. The role of the girl in coma is played by Vibha Natarajan and the multi millionaire is played by A. Venkatesh himself. Power Star plays a comedic villain who is the step brother of Venkatesh. Appu Kutty and Archana are the only ones who know that Thaman is pretending to be Vibha’s husband and that he has other intentions. The rest of the story spans around Archana’s and Appu Kutty’s desperate attempts to prove it and Thaman’s dexterous moves to live through all their attempts.

Thambi Ramiah plays the role of an auto rickshaw driver who tags himself along with Thaman in order to share a piece of the fortune he bumps into. He later falls in love with Archana who deceives him for her gain. Although his expressions and timing were of the standard Thambi Ramiah class, they did not create any divergence to the unexciting screenplay.

Power star appears to be an overused joker in the pack of cards. The director has attempted to portray him in a few spoof scenes that are intended to produce mindless laughter. The movie neither has managed to generate the intended humour nor has an interesting story that would at least keep the audience caught up. The entire set up appears to be extremely amateur with scarcely any entertaining point outs.

The cinematography was normal, with lack of colour in the scenes and in the songs. The editing in the first few scenes appears to be satisfactory with neat transitions between scenes. However it loses colour as the movie progresses resulting in abrupt cuts in scene ends. The music did not succeed to impress either. The use of the back ground music of other movies in certain scenes was completely unnecessary. The sudden appearance of a character, who looks just like Vibha, is evidently the director’s final shot to finish off the story that heads nowhere.

Verdict: On the whole Summa Nachunu Irukku is a movie that lacks clarity on the genre it wants to fall under.
