“Nee padicha books, paatha cinema, yaaro solli ketta information, yellaam serndhu un moolaila kolambi karpana kadhayaa veliya varudhu.” Dhanush's dialogue that is revealed in the trailer sums up the entire concept of Anegan. The story revolves around Madhu, a game artist who has a library of stories within her, which are obviously unconvincing and sometimes boring for the others. But what connect do these stories have with the movie? Well, that is Anegan for you.

KV Anand's flair for effective storytelling, with accurate use of commercial elements is spot on. Amyra Dastur opens up proceedings for us right from the very first frame and her smiling face is all over the place. The opening Burma sequences are strong highlights of the movie, with some nice art work involved in these segments. KV Anand has been keen on having special introduction scenes for Dhanush - thrice in the movie as he is portrayed in three different stories with different makeovers.

Dhanush as Vyasarpadi Kaali is a definite high point in the movie - his accent and mannerism lifts up the experience altogether and with the Danga Maari song featuring in this segment, the excitement climbs to its maximum.

The screenplay is kept tight throughout, neatly knitting out elements from different periods. KV Anand proves yet again that the picturization of his songs would earn them a long shelf life, especially the ‘rasathi’ song, which is an adorable montage featuring Dhanush and Amyra.

Amyra's expressive acting keeps you glued to the screen - not to forget the 'fish lipped' kiss that caught the likes of many right from the release of the movie's trailer.

The 'Navarasa Nayagan' makes the movie special with a graceful performance - his cool attitude and his romantic one liners are still fresh. Dhanush's lean body has turned out to be highly advantageous to the pan Indian actor as he can practically fit himself into any age or make over.

The action sequences have been well choreographed and Om Prakash's camera fits the bill throughout the movie.

Anthony's editing is a notable element in the film, not only in the songs, but also in the sequences where the flashback and current portions of the movie are connected. The portrayal of different 'kolams' in front of the house to establish the passing days is an interesting idea well executed by the team.

One factor which is weak is that the suspense which is nicely built up in the first half when opened up in the second half leaves us not fully convinced. A few lip sync issues here and there could have been tightened. Though there are lots of questions which can be raised on the story and happenings, the overall screenplay and editing keeps you engaged by and large.

Verdict: An entertainer that will keep you engaged.
