This is the 'Pulp Fiction' of Tamil - Event Story

Apr 29, 2013

The music of Pasanga Productions’ Moodar Koodam was released by director Bharathiraja and legendary singer KJ Yesudas. The latter was also honored for his unparalleled contributions to the field of music for the past 50 years.

Also present there were Samuthirakani, Udhaya Kumar, ‘Katradhu Thamizh’ Ram, Balaji Tharaneetharan, Simbudevan, Suseendran, Seenu Ramasamy, UTV Dhananjayan, KE Gnanavelraja, Madhan and many others.

The producer of the film, Pandiraj, while addressing the gathering, narrated how Bharathiraja’s films urged him to become a director. “Today I’m not only a director, but also a producer, which makes me twice happier,” smiled the director.

Talking about the other legend, KJ Yesudas, he said, “Even lord Ayyappa sleeps only to his lullaby. Name any genre, there’s a masterpiece delivered by him in each of them,” praised the Kedi Billa Killadi Ranga director.

In this film, Moodar Koodam, KJ Yesudas has sung the famous number, Neeyum Bommai Naanum Bommai, with which he started his career.

Pandiraj was also very enthusiastic talking about his former assistant and the director of the film, Naveen. “Naveen came to me with the script while I was doing Marina, asking me to do the lead character. I asked him if he wanted to scare the audiences away. Then he went on with villain actor Sentrayan. Naveen and Sentrayan even had a creative difference while shooting. I had to interfere and sort out the issue,” Pandiraj said.

He also conveyed his confidence in the film. “I wouldn’t mind distributing the film myself, if nobody wants to buy it,” summed up the chief of Pasanga Productions.

Katradhu Thamizh Ram was quite enthusiastic about the film and believes that Moodar Koodam would be the ‘Pulp Fiction’ of Tamil Cinema. But contrarily, Seenu Ramasamy finds a subtle Majid Majidi touch in the film.

The director of Moodar Koodam, Naveen had also assisted Simbudevan in Imsai Arasan 23am Pulikesi and Arai Enn 305il Kadavul. Taking the podium, Simbudevan recollected what a perfectionist Naveen used to be as an assistant. “He is a very systematic man. He used to maintain a separate book to keep track of every department. Even if he leaves the job half way, anybody could take over and continue from where he left, all thanks to his books,” he said.

Bharathiraja was very impressed with the trailer and the songs that were screened during the event. He said the film looks as beautiful as a Picasso’s work.

Talking about KJ Yesudas, he said that, like the Brihadeeshwara Temple, the singer will always remain in the hearts of people.

He also sang praises of Pandiraj. “Tamil Cinema is going through a transition right now. People involved in it are very intelligent. One of them is Pandiraj. I still have no idea how he managed to make Marina so well. I found it extremely difficult to shoot at the crowded Marina beach,” said the veteran director.

Lastly Dr KJ Yesudas conveyed his gratitude to the team for honoring him. He said he keeps learning music every day. “It’s not easy to master music. Even today I learn to learn new things”, said the ever humble artiste. He also wished the team all the luck and said that he is sure of the film’s success.
