''People are taken aback thanks to Idhaaba'', Swati Reddy

Oct 13, 2013

After making a lot of heads turn as the sweet rural village belle in Subramaniapuram and recently as the young urban lover girl in Idhaaba, Swati Reddy is in a happy space. In this interview with Behindwoods, she opens out on a variety of aspects related to her life and career.

How has the response to Idhaaba been?

It has been a good year for me. People have been taken aback to see me in a completely different avatar compared to Subramaniapuram. It is a good change for me too as I have sported my normal urban looks.

After the massive success of Subramaniapuram, fans expected you in more movies but there was a lull in your career in Tamil. Why so?

I was new to the industry back then and had just completed my studies. We shot for more than 100 days for Subramaniapuram and I was done with that, as the experience was really intense. After the success of the movie, I was being offered similar kind of work by the industry and they were all heavily stereotyped offers on the lines of Subramaniapuram. I understood that it was always going to be difficult to match Subramaniapuram's level and that's why I didn't accept all those offers that came my way.

Now after the success of Idhaaba, can we see you in more Tamil movies?

It all depends on logistics and practicalities. If I am offered good work, I am always open to taking it up.

Tell us about your work in the Malayalam industry.

It has been truly overwhelming and since it's a smaller industry, everything is transparent. There has been big appreciation for both my Malayalam films.

The Vadacurry experience, where you are joining hands with Jai again?

I am thrilled at the same time kinda freaked out about the hype surrounding my reunion with Jai. I can't reveal much about the movie right now.

What are your other projects in the offing?

Amali Thumali is the first Tamil movie to be shot in Fiji and I am not sure when this long-in-the-making film would see the light of day. Then there is a Telugu film, Bangaru Kodipetta and a Tamil-Telugu bilingual, Karthikeya with Nikhil.

Your singing exploits are well-known in Andhra. Given your sweet voice, when can we hear you singing a Tamil song?

I have already rendered 3 numbers in Telugu and I am open to singing in Tamil too. It all depends on the composers and the kind of songs they give me

Will you jump on to the social media bandwagon and interact with your fans?

It's not my thing as there are lot of stalkers and buffoons who come up with all sorts of silly questions and comments. Plus, I don't wish to share anything and everything that comes to my mind just for the sake of it. I will always be available on phone, to those who really need to get in touch with me.
