Mappillai escapes from mandapam to watch Sivaji shoot
Sep 01, 2006

People are known to go crazy over their on screen idols. Rajikanth, as we all know has a demigod status all over Tamil Nadu. He has fans who are ready to sacrifice anything for his sake and are proud of that. We had reported about a certain Veeramani who was insistent that he would marry only in the presence of the superstar and had nearly wasted his good years trying to realize this dream.

Rajinikanth

Well, this news is about another such fan. He did not insist that he would marry only in the presence of the superstar. He in fact agreed to get married and the ceremony was planned and all relatives and well-wishers called upon to grace the function. What happened was bizarre, to say the least.

This happened at Thirupporur near Chennai on the 30th of Aug. The shooting of Sivaji was scheduled to take place in this suburb and Rajni was slated to take part in the schedule along with Vivek and a few other artistes.

We all know how fast the news of a Rajnikanth shooting can spread and soon a sizeable crowd had gathered to see the shooting (read Rajni). Among the people who had gathered to see the shooting was a certain Thangaraj.

The shooting went on into the night and Thangaraj stayed on to watch.

The scenes that were being canned include one of Rajni and Vivek getting out of a car together and interestingly one that shows the superstar as a coolie lifting gunny bags. After 10 p.m. at night a shot was taken in a set erected specially for that purpose. The set resembled a public phone booth and Rajni was shown making a call from the booth. Thangaraj waited to see every bit of the shooting.

Meanwhile, not far away, relatives and friends of Thangaraj were frantically searching for him throughout the town, some of them were quite disturbed.

The reason as we said earlier was that Thangaraj’s marriage had been scheduled, and that too for the next day (31st Aug). All the arrangements at a local marriage hall had been completed and Thangaraj was wanted for some customary rituals to be carried out. But the bridegroom was busy enjoying every shot of Sivaji and the mere presence of the Superstar. Fortunately, someone from Thangaraj’s family somehow wandered into the sets of Sivaji and to his great relief saw Thangaraj completely engrossed in the shooting. What followed is predictable. A relieved but visibly angry family member dragged Thangaraj away from the sets.

We have heard about many fans and the crazy ways in which they display their loyalty, but this must be a ‘first of its kind’.
