The truth behind Dasavatharam
By Behindwoods News Bureau.
November 30, 2007
The most-talked about film of the year is nearing completion and rumors are abuzz about its release date and sneak peeks of some of the visuals in the film. We are here to clear the air over all these rumors and have the information straight from the sources closest to the team.
Dasavatharam

Kamal Haasan plays the lead in this movie, which has been under production for the last two years. He plays a record breaking 10 different roles and the movie comes with an assurance that it is going to be mind-boggling from start to finish. Some high points in the film are:

The tsunami scene, which was shot in a plot covering two acres, would appear as real as the one that struck a few years ago. More than 1000 junior artistes participated in this scene that was shot over a 50-day period, which included using a chopper to shoot some aerial shots. So much attention has been paid for a scene that wouldn’t last more than 10 minutes in the film.

Dasavatharam A scene where Kamal drowns in the sea with a Vishnu idol in hand is supposed to have been well picturised and is said to be jaw-dropping sequence.

Anil Bemlikhar’s make-up comes in for a special mention especially for Kamal’s role as a 93-year-old lady. For the make-up, the actor had to sit through a grueling 6-8 hours, but the scene would merely last up to 1 ½ hours, as the make-up would not hold beyond that. This was again shot over a 45-day period and would occupy only 15 minutes of screen time.
One of Kamal’s 10 roles is that of the US President, George Bush for which he had taken great care and closely researched his video footage. This has come out very well and he closely resembles the President, sources say. This role alone demanded 60 days of shooting again all this amounting to only seven minutes on screen. During these scenes, Kamal is said to have developed acne due to make up and is said to have continued shooting in spite of it.

Now rumors regarding the screening of songs and a few scenes is all being put to rest with truth out in the open that only a slide show had been shown to anyone outside the team including biggies like Rajini and Chief Minister Kalaingar Karunanidhi.

More than 95 per cent of the film involves computer graphics and there are a few scenes where many Kamals get together and these scenes are the most trying for the graphics team. Some of these shots have been shot aerially giving it a sense of grandeur and is sure to appeal to everyone.

As of now, there is a footage that spans four hours and they intend trimming this down to about two hours and 45 minutes. Due to these reasons, sources say that release date has not been scheduled.

This we believe will put to rest all rumors that are doing the rounds, and we request all eager beavers to wait patiently for it to take shape.
