By Behindwoods News Bureau.
April 7, 2007
The film directors association has increased the membership fee for both the assistant film directors and directors. The membership fee for a director has been increased to Rs 50,000/- from Rs 5000/- and for an assistant director from Rs1300/- to Rs 6000/-. Two hundred assistant directors starting in front of
Prasad lab decrying the drastic increase in membership fee, walked to the film directors association in Kumaran colony and submitted a petition asking the association to cancel the hike in membership fee and revert to the prevalent fee structure for both the directors and assistant directors . S.A Selvakumar, Ayndu kovilan, Pon Arumugam and Teju Subramani were the co ordinators for the "protest walk".

Amir John the director and secretary of the film directors association clarified saying that after the association merged with Pepsi, the membership card became mandatory for functioning in the capacity of a director. Amir john further said that this was the reason behind the fee hike and moreover some of them who had scarcely directed a film misused the facilities that accrued to the card holder. Amir John affirmed that the hike will not affect any existing member.
