Aamir Khan's production
venture, Peepli Live, has been selected
as India's official entry to the Oscars
which will be held in February, 2011. This
was announced on Friday, September 24, 2010.
Peepli Live has been selected from among
27 entries submitted from various languages.
Peepli will represent India in the Best
Foreign Film category. The film has been
directed by newcomer Anusha Rizvi and was
appreciated by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh
also.
The movie portrays the state of poor farmers
and farmer suicides and how media and politicians
handle the issue. Incidentally, this is
Aamir Khan's third movie to be selected
for the Oscar nomination. His first two
movies Lagaan (2001) and Taare Zameen Par
(2007) were also short listed.
