The prestigious Kalaimamani awards
were presented to 72 artistes from
various fields of art and culture
at a ceremony held yesterday (28th
Nov.) at Chennai. The function was
presided by the Honorable Chief Minister
of Tamil Nadu Kalaignar Karunanidhi.
The Governor of Tamil Nadu, Surjit
Singh Barnala was also present.
The personalities who were presented
with the honor belonged to various
fields including music, drama, dance,
fine arts, literature, TV and cinema.
The recipients from the cine field
were director Cheran, actors Bharath,
Sundar C, Vineeth, Pasupathi, Vaiyapuri,
actresses Asin, Meera Jasmine, Nayanthara,
Shobhana and veteran Saroja Devi.
Composer Harris Jayaraj, art director
Krishnamurthy, cinematographer R.D.
Rajashekhar, Vedham Pudhidhu Kannan,
still photographer Chithra Swaminathan
and producer/exhibitor Abhirami Ramanathan
were among the others awarded.
However, Cheran, Nayanthara, Shobhana,
Meera Jasmine and Saroja Devi were
not present to receive the honor.
