The South Indian film industry has raised its voice against the IIFA being held in Sri Lanka following the killings of the Sri Lankan Tamils last year to weed out the LTTE. There has been several protests and appeals to the North Indian film fraternity to boycott the IIFA this year. A press note on behalf of the south Indian film industry stated that they were against the IIFA being held in Sri Lanka and was not against the IIFA itself.

A meeting was convened on May 28th, 2010 at the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce, to appeal to their north Indian counterparts not to participate in the event. A resolution was passed wherein the film fraternity has expressed that it would neither co-operate with the Sri Lankan film industry nor conduct any film shooting there.
