The May 17 movement held
a demonstration near Kamal Haasan’s
office to pressurize him to quit the FICCI
president post as a protest against IIFA being
held in Sri Lanka. Kamal also released a press
note recently to make it clear that the FICCI
will have nothing to do with the IIFA and
he would not be attending it. In the same
press note he had mentioned that the demonstrators
wanted him to return the Padma award that
he had been awarded by the Government of India.
Reacting to this, Thirumurugan of the May
17 movement said that Kamal was never asked
to return the prestigious award but to remain
as upright as director Bharathiraja, who
returned his Padma award for a cause.
