Several advocate across the state
have filed petitions against Vijay,
director Perarasu, producer AM Rathnam
and actor Bhaskar for the slanderous
statement made about the lawyers
in their film Sivakasi. Following
this, the magistrates of several
courts issued summons to all those
concerned. Some courts also issued
warrants against the defendants.
Vijay, Perarasu, AM Rathnam and
Bhaskar had filed a petition in
the High Court of Madras pleading
that the case does not fall under
the purview of Criminal Procedure
Code. The petitioners also alleged
that the magistrate courts did not
issue summons to them before the
warrants.
The High Court stayed all proceedings
in the magistrate courts pertaining
to this case and ordered the Bar
Council, the Women Lawyers’
Association and High Court Advocates
Association for a counter. The case
is expected to be disposed on July
3rd.
