The defamation case filed by the
lawyers across the state in various
magistrate courts against producer
AM Rathinam, director Perarasu,
actor Vijay and comedian MS Bhaskar
came up for hearing at the Madras
High Court.
It may be recalled that several
advocates filed cases against the
four for defaming the advocates
in their film Sivakasi. The magistrate
courts issued summons to the defendants
and this was challenged by the defendants
at the High Court.
According to the defendants, the
film is purely based on imagination
and hence it has no hidden agenda.
The defendants also claimed that
the derogatory scenes were removed
from the film. However, the petitioners
alleged that proper promos were
not made after the deletion. Delivering
opinion on the issue, the judge
questioned the credibility of the
notice that all the scenes are based
on imagination. A decision on this
issue is expected on July 16th.
