Naan Kadavul director Bala and Varaanam Aayiram director Gautham Menon are the two people the spot lights will focus on for the next few weeks - the reason Bala won the best director award for his film Naan Kadavul and Varaanam Aayiram was adjudged as the best Tamil film at the 56th National Film Awards for 2008.

Bala dedicated his award to his mentor, director Balu Mahendra and his wife Akila Balu Mahendra.

The other awards announced were:

Best film - Bengali film 'Antaheen'

Best Actor – Upendra Limaye - Marathi film 'Jogwa'

Best Actress – Priyanka Chopra – Hindi Film ‘Fashion’

Best supporting actor – Arjun Rampal – Film 'Rock On'

Best supporting actress - Kangana Ranaut – Hindi Film ‘Fashion’

Best Male playback singer – Hariharan - film 'Jogwa'

Best Female playback singer - Shreya Ghoshal – film 'Antaheen'

Best Children's film - Kannada film 'Gubbachigalu'

Best Jury Award - Malayalam film 'Bioscope

Best Child Actor - Shams Patel - Hindi film 'Thanks Maa'
