A Video that surfaced online showed minor girls who were standing bare-chested for a temple ritual in Madurai. In the old ritual which is still being followed in ‘Ezhai Katha Amman’ temple, 7 girls are selected from the village, who will be treated as ‘Goddesses’ for 15 days. The girls will reportedly be staying in the temple for 15 days and won’t be sent to school. The temple priest reportedly ‘hand picks’ the girls, makes them stay with him in the temple for 15 days to offer service to the temple deity. An activist based out of Madurai has reportedly taken the issue to Human Rights Commission.
