A 45-year-old man, Muthukumar who was a murder-accused allegedly attacked police. Reportedly, police received information that Muthukumar has come to his home in Athimarapatti, and they planned to arrest him. According to media reports, Muthukumar hit the cops with a machete and tried to escape. The sub-inspector opened fire and shot Muthukumar; he was hurt on his thigh. Three officials including the sub-inspector sustained injuries. Muthukumar and the police were admitted to Tuticorin government hospital.
