At a prison in the city of Lae in Papua New Guinea, prison guards have shot dead 17 inmates after a mass breakout. Reportedly, three prisoners have been recaptured while 57 others managed to escape and remain at large. Police Chief Superintendent Anthony Wagambie reportedly said a majority of the escaped inmates committed serious crimes.
