Mustard to be India’s first GM food

Genetic Engineering Appraisal Committee, the nodal agency for India's biotechnology had reportedly cleared the genetically modified (GM) Mustard for commercial cultivation on Thursday. According to reports, the agency had also sent out the seed for approval to the environment ministry. Notably, the same agency had given clearance to Bt Brinjal in 2010. However, then environment minister Jairam Ramesh had declined the proposal.
