Govt mulls merger, public sector banks to be reduced to 10-12

According to reports, the Centre is mulling over merger of 21 public sector banks to create 10-12 banks in a three-tier structure. A Zee business report says, United Bank and P&S bank would merge into Bank of Baroda, while Indian Overseas Bank, Syndicate Bank and UCO Bank will merge into Canara Bank. The report further said IDBI Bank, Central Bank and Dena Bank would all merge into Union Bank while Andhra Bank, Bank of Maharashtra and Vijaya Bank will merge into  Bank of India.
