Review by : Harish V

Direction: Vijay Lalwani
Music: Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and Baylon
Production: Magic Beans, Excel Entertainment.
Farhan Akhtar has been choosing his roles very carefully and 'Karthik calling Karthik' is no exception. The director and the director turned actor has decided to make a different movie and from a mushy romantic movie in the first half they shift gears in the second to make a disturbing psychological thriller.

Karthik (Farhan) is a brilliant loser having a troubled past, has got habituated to getting bullied. Eventually he loses his job, his love and his life. When all is gone and he decides to commit suicide he gets a call and surprisingly the person calling from the other side is himself. Life takes a 'U' turn for Karthik once he starts following the phone Karthik ways. He gets his job, his love, his happiness and his life. But his happiness is short-lived when he decides to share his secret to his girlfriend and his psychologist. What happens next is something that should be enjoyed on big screen.
  Karthik Calling Karthik

Vijay Lalwani is a great talent and has a bright future ahead. Don’t miss the captivating and creative opening credits and the Rubik's cube shown to describe the complexity of Karthik's life which is a brilliant touch as well. You will fall in love with the first half but the director loses his grip in the second but the twists work quite well for the movie. The scene when the psychiatrist decides to prove Karthik wrong is a brilliant scene and the scene after wards too are spine chilling. The climax is a complete let-down.

The cinematography by Sanu Varghese is one of the best we have seen in a while. Music and background score by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and Baylon respectively is a treat for all ages. Editing is visionary.

Karthik getting a makeover and the way he gets back his work are testaments to how Farhan has grown as an actor. Brilliant work by the director turned actor. Deepika Padukone is believable and this might well be her best performance till date. Ram Kapoor is extraordinary and so is Shefali Chaaya (but what's strange about that?).

Overall it’s a good product with some amazing performance from Farhan and co. If you are looking for some good time at the theatres this might be your best bet. If only the second half was even half as good as the first this product would have been brilliant.

Verdict: Give a call and you will not be disappointed.
