The much awaited, most vigorously promoted movie of recent times got released today. A team of Siddharth Anand, Sajid Nadiadwala, Vishal- Shekhar, Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra is no mean combination. The songs being a rage already and with Priyanka and Ranbir seen all over India in all shopping malls, hotels, fashion

shows and even places of worship, the hype that the producer hoped to induce surely was in place. A week's delay in release because of the Ayodhya verdict did not dampen the spirits of anyone.

'The greatest love stories are between strangers’ proclaimed the posters. Is Anjaana Anjaani a great love story? We will leave it to you to decide. Two people, Akash and Kiara, in despair, plan to end their lives off a bridge and as we expect, fail to do so. Both of them! They get admitted to the same hospital, escape together with designer hospital clothes and try to have more fun with the suicide-suicide game. The game seems reluctant to end with the two trying screen threads, duct tapes and even gas leaks to end their lives. You think they will die so soon? After a few 'logical' conversations, they decide to fulfill their Things-to-do-before-i-die list before they die together.

As is always the case, the wish list has a mention about virginity as well. Ok, the couple share their secrets about suicidal intentions. Akash lost his business and is bankrupt because of the recession and Kiara has had a love failure. Good enough reasons to commit suicide. Atleast, we are relieved that only one has a flashback. Wish number 2. Kiara wants to swim in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. The two hire a cruise and do that. No questions about where they get the money. This particular sequence runs for so many ever minutes, including a part of Kiara's flashback. Gosh! This is the Atlantic and it is -2 degrees in the water and the two are making merry.

More absurdity follows when Kiara decides to commit suicide. The doctor in the hospital says "Is losing a job or love failure a reason to end lives? It is cowardice". How true? Maybe the director didn’t realise. They again decide to go to Las Vegas and have more fun. When you think the ordeal is nearing its end, we can hear a lot of people sigh when Kiara says she cannot forget her past love. And after a few sentiments, tears et al, the movie ends on the usual happy note.

Siddharth promised a ride of love and adventure but falls flat on both counts. The way both the protagonists display their mood swings is absolutely bemusing. Can we expect any romance.. not very serious. Can we expect some comedy...maybe sparks of it. The comedy may amuse you but doesn’t stay in your mind. It is the usual stereotypes. Direction or screenplay needs no special mention as Siddharth seems to be inspired by Girl on the Bridge and The bucket list. All he has ensured is a nearly three hour episode of sight-seeing for a paltry 100 bucks movie ticket.

When we usually complain that the songs of a movie come as interruptions, songs here come as a whiff of fresh air. Music by Vishal Shekhar and visuals by Ravi K. Chandran are just excellent. We are rest assured that we are shown New York, LA and Vegas as never before. We can only feel three characters in the movie till the very end. Priyanka Chopra, as Kiara, looks animated and every bit lively as the character demands. Ranbir Kapoor tries and tries hard to be Akash but we feel he can emote a little more. Even his see-my-bare-chest moves doesn't work out. Zayed in a cameo role scores.

Siddharth could have concentrated on one bit instead of so many things. Romance, comedy or the adventure.. atleast one could have been given more importance. The direction and screenplay is as flat as the road in New York. The dialogues and scenes are every bit cliched and stereotyped. If not for the songs and few witty scenes here and there, Anjaana Anjaani is a dull and boring movie to watch. We only wish that Akash and Kiara had fulfilled their suicide ambitions in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean in the first half of the movie.

Verdict: Watch it only if you do not get a ticket for Robot over the weekend.
