Villa is an upcoming film that’s slotted in the newly formed Pizza franchise. The film will have no connection to the first film and is helmed by a debutant director, Deepan Chakravarthy. The film stars Ashok Selvan and Sanchita Shetty. Music is by Santhosh Narayanan.

Boomiyil
Singers: Pradeep Kumar
Lyrics: Arun Raja

The long dwindling opening vocal melody sets you up for what is essentially a lyric driven tune with mostly minimal orchestration. The acoustic guitars are accompanied by intelligent strings that play a nice backing role to a decent melody. Pradeep eases through this with a fine performance.

Disco Women
Singers: Dhee
Lyrics: Ganeshkumar

This track seems like an offshoot of ‘Rathiriyil’ from Pizza. The vocal duties here are assumed by a female singer, Dhee, but even as the delivery is along the same lines, its less aggressive and captivating than its predecessor. The similarity continues with the use of violins which created nice disco flashbacks ala Boney M on the Pizza track. While the template may have been tempting to reuse the track suffers from the lack of an x-factor.

Kanum Gnyanam
Singers: Kalyani Nair
Lyrics: Ganeshkumar

An interesting piece of composition that takes its time to build up and the singer Kalyani Nair keeps herself busy in the meanwhile with some humming. The actual melody is hauntingly beautiful especially with the growing string section in the backdrop. If the idea was to creep out the listener, the track most definitely succeeds. Still, a beautifully charted out tune.

Pa Pa
Singers: Gana Bala, Vineet Mani
Lyrics: Ganeshkumar

Santhosh Narayan has the credit of introducing Gaana Bala to us and the composer has taken it upon himself to exploit the singer’s talent differently. The thought of Bala belting out a metal number may sound great on paper, but the overall output doesn’t live up to the promise.

The Villa
Singers: The Studio Orchestra of Sydney
Lyrics:

The first of the two instrumentals featuring the the Studio Orchestra of Sydney, takes little time to take full flight. The highly involved performance by the orchestra gives this short theme its riveting moments. A tune tailor-made for a horror flick.

Varaipadam
Singers: The Studio Orchestra of Sydney
Lyrics:

The closing piece is a thoughtfully constructed instrumental that surprises with its melodies which slowly unfurl before the listener. It’s not all tension as the initial passage may indicate as the song eases down to a melancholy.

Verdict: The album though to a larger extent follows the same template as Pizza, succeeds in setting up the right mood for a thriller.
