Zanjeer is a remake of the yesteryear classic. This version stars Ram Charan Teja, son of South Indian Star Chiranjeevi, and Priyanka Chopra in the lead.  Directed by Apoorva Lakhia, the film deals with Oil Mafia and a powerful Police Officer who combats it.  The album has music composed by a musical trio Meet Bros Anjjan (Harmeet Singh, Manmeet Singh & Anjjan Bhattacharya), Chirantan Bhatt and Anand Raj Anand.

Mumbai Ke Hero
Singers: Mika Singh
Lyrics: Manooj Yadav

The album begins with a bang with Mumbai ke Hero- the promo of the song has already created much impact with the audience.  The catchy rhythm and the energetic singing by Mika is the main asset for the track. Amitabh Bacchan’s punch dialogues from the original Zanjeer in between is another highlight for the song.  This song is like a new definition to the old classic Zanjeer starring Amitabh in the lead. The song style is a peculiar mix of Rap and Hip Hop and it wonderfully suits the theme of the film. Mika gives the Punjabi touch to the song as well making it a sure shot winner!

Pinky
Singers: Mamta Sharma, Meet Bros Again
Lyrics: Manooj Yadav

Next arrives Pinky, a song that seems tailor-made for Priyanka Chopra, making sure it is an item song right from the prelude. The song has the irresistible Marathi flavor which serves well for the Mumbai backdrop of the film. Mamta Sharma performs with the right spunk the song deserves with her energetic voice. The rhythm is catchy and the song would appeal to the masses in the right chord.

Lamha Tera Mera
Singers: Palak Mucchal, Wajhi Farooki
Lyrics: Manooj Yadav

In contrast with the first two tracks, it’s a soothing melody Lamha Tera Mera which comes next. Sung mellifluously by Wajhi Farooki and Palak Mucchal, the song sounds quite fresh and welcoming to the ears and the guitar rhythm retains the tune’s captivating nature.

Khochey Pathan Ki Zubaan
Singers: Sukhwinder Singh
Lyrics: Manooj Yadav

This song is an interesting Qawwali sung by the ever energetic Sukhwinder Singh. This song is another beautiful representation of the hybrid culture of Mumbai and is catchy in the first listen. Strong vocals, and an interesting tune gives it a good place in the album’s worth. It also has the 70s Bollywood flavor interspersed well with the current era.

Kaatilana
Singers: Shwetha Pandit
Lyrics: Manooj Yadav

Shwetha Pandit’s Kaatilana arrives next with a dancey rhythm that takes the song forward while the tune manages to stay melodious. It is a racy song with interesting vocals by Shwetha – who usually sings slow paced and melodious songs. It does have the 80s disco/cabaret styled music which is consistent right from the beginning till the end.

Shakila Banaoo
Singers: Shreya Ghoshal
Lyrics: Manooj Yadav

Shakila Banaoo is another peppy item song- this time sung by Shreya Ghoshal. The song makes sure the pace and theme of the album is continued with it. The tune sounds like a typical Bollywood number. However, its Shreya Ghoshal makes sure the song gets its own individuality! Being a competent singer in singing any sort of genre- she does complete justice to the song and makes it enjoyable.

Kaatilana (M.B.A- Club Mix)
Singers: Shwetha Pandit
Lyrics: Manooj Yadav

The remix version of Kaatilana is done well with adequate rhythm and percussion patterns. The mixing is in tune with R.D.Burman’s style of songs. As the original song has the scope for remix, this version runs through quite convincingly.

Verdict: All in all, Zanjeer is a commercial album with an equal share of instantly likeable tracks and heard-before numbers.
