Diana Hayden hits back at Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb's disparaging comments

Miss World winner and actress Diana Hayden was recently the object of heavy criticism by Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, who on Thursday said that he "didn't understand the beauty of Diana Hayden", apart from also questioning the process of judging the pageant in the year 1997, which she won.

The latest development, according to reports, in this controversy: Diana has retorted on Biplab's comments, stating that his comments were "hurtful" and a shame. She also added that he "didn't understand the beauty of Diana Hayden", and that she is"proud of her exotic brown skin colour".

Notably, Biplab also compared her to Aishwarya Rai, who he dubbed "represent the Indian women", and deserved to win the pageant in 1994.

"With regards to me winning the Miss World, it's a pity and shame, that when you win the biggest and most respected beauty pageant in the world, you get criticised and put down as opposed to being appreciated and respected for bringing more accolades back home and further appreciation of our Indian brown exotic beauty," Diana is reported to have said.

"Being brown-skinned, I've had to fight the 'light skin is better' issue we have in India. I felt so strongly about it that I turned down a fairness cream ad because it went against my belief."

She added: "Shame on him as our beautiful, exotic brown colouring is to be proud of. I sure am!"
