Kamal Haasan does not want to return his National Award

The latest hot topic in India is giving away awards bestowed by the government of India to protest against the alleged ‘intolerance’. The return of awards includes the Sahitya Academy Awards, National Awards and Padma awards. Every day we have someone or the other announcing that they are returning their awards.

However, Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan has revealed that he would not join this exercise of ‘award wapsi’ and return his award. He also said that there are other sensible ways through which problems could be addressed. He reiterated that intolerance must be defeated intellectually and he does not want to insult the government that gave him his award.

It can be recalled that Vidya Balan and Anupam Kher had also echoed similar viewpoints on this while Shah Rukh said, “I respect those who returned awards, but I don't have to."
