Gayathrie talks about Mellisai and Vijay Sethupathi

Mellisai directed by Ranjith Jeyakodi, starring Vijay Sethupathi and Gayathrie, is one of the expected movies of the year. The teaser of the same will be out this evening.

For heroine Gayathrie this is her third film with Vijay Sethupathi after Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom and Rummy although in the latter, she was not his on screen partner.

Sharing her thoughts on the film and Vijay Sethupathi, Gayathrie says that she was really happy working with the actor as there is a level of comfort since they had worked with each other earlier. She plays Meera, a violin teacher in Mellisai and Vijay Sethupathi is Kadhir, a music director. The film is a romantic thriller.

She furthers, “I have immense faith in Vijay Sethupathi’s judgment and this factor was one of the reasons I agreed to do the film. I of course liked the script.  I had a lot of scope to perform in Mellisai”.

Recalling an interesting incident during the shoot, the actress says, “There was one very important scene and I was very nervous before that. Vijay Sethupathi is a perfectionist and keeps asking for retakes till he is satisfied even if the director is happy with the output. So the more the retakes , I get more nervous. This portion was his close-up over my shoulder and after this I had to perform. After he completed, there were claps at the spot and when it was my turn, I was praying that I should not goof up the shot. But after they took my portion, nobody said anything because the wave of his performance was still present. But Vijay came to me and said ‘Are you trying to overtake me in this scene? I will talk to the editor and cut it out’. Of course he was kidding but I was happy as it was a compliment to me”

Elaborating further, Gayathrie says, “Vijay has a sense of understanding of every scene and reads the script thoroughly. In a scene when he is improvising, he would also include his co-artist and suggest ways to improvise. In the process we don’t go overboard or cross the director’s meter but stay within those lines”.

Talking about director Ranjith, Gayathrie states, “First thing Ranjith told me when I joined him on Mellisai sets was not to call anyone by sir but just by name. He said that everyone has the freedom to tell what is right and wrong and that I should also fall in the same pattern. When the director of the film asks to leave our egos outside and work, it is a great relief"

Mellisai is gearing up to release soon!
