Kaaka Muttai's world premiere in Toronto

A big international recognition for Dhanush and Vetri Maaran

Aug 20, 2014
On Tuesday the Toronto International Film Festival made its final set of film announcements for the upcoming festival, breaking the news that M. Manikandan’s feature film debut Kaaka Muttai would have its world premiere at the festival. Co-produced by Tamil cinema powerhouses Dhanush (Wunderbar Films) and Vetri Maaran (Grass Root Film Company) the film follows a set of mischievous yet determined brothers growing up in hardship within Chennai, who devote themselves to getting their first taste of pizza when a local restaurant opens up in their area.

Manikandan, a previous assistant of Vetrimaaran, also wrote and handled cinematography for this film that will play in TIFF’s “Discovery” programme, dedicated to first time feature filmmakers. The festival runs from September 4-14 and Kaaka Muttai has already been granted coveted spots during the festival’s opening weekend which will boast audiences from all around the world.

Other Tamil films that have played at TIFF include Mani Ratnam’s Iruvar (1997) and Kannathil Muthamittal (2002), and most recently Suseenthiran’s Azhagarsamiyin Kuthirai in 2011, however these films were screened following their commercial releases.

All the best to the team of Kaaka Muttai for a stellar world premiere in Toronto!
