Thuppakki vs Holiday - Trailer analysis

 

For people who have seen the Tamil original, Holiday's trailer reveals too much of the film's core plot whereas the original's trailer held back more for the audience to enjoy on screen. The memorable scene at the terrace, the 12 in 1 shootout and even some scenes towards the climax have been revealed.

 

But, for Hindi speaking people who haven't seen the original, the trailer of Holiday doesn't spoil the fun and in fact just adds to the excitement to see the movie. 

 

The villain in the Hindi version pales in comparison to the terrific Vidyut Jamwal. The same dialog "Mujhe Smart Logon Se Nafrat Hai" sounded more mean and cool, coming from Vidyut (credits to the dubbing artist Abhinay too). Sonakshi Sinha displays good energy, vibrancy and even sports a different hairdo for the scene in the boxing ring. Seems like a good choice indeed, given her already much-loved chemistry with Akshay.

 

The background score of Harris Jayaraj was a major factor in Thuppakki's success and the Hindi trailer also carries a pulsating music score for the action parts. The production values of Holiday are comparable to Thuppakki, thanks to the presence of director Murugadoss and his sensibilities, but one feels Santosh Sivan's work was a class apart in Thuppakki.

 

Finally, though Akshay tilts his head towards the right while he says "I am Waiting" whereas Vijay tilted his head towards the left, there is little to separate between the two superstars. Though fans of Thuppakki will forever hold Vijay's performance close to their heart, Akshay's prowess at stunts and dances will serve him well as he tries to match Vijay's superior performance in Thuppakki.

 

Holiday releases on June 6th and more comparisons with the original are saved for a later date, after the film releases.
