RESEARCHERS FIND THIS VACCINE SHOT EFFECTIVE IN CONTROLLING COVID19 SPREAD! DETAILS ABOUT THE VACCINE

Scientists have found that the Bacillus Calmette- Guerin or BCG is effective in decreasing the rate of infection as well as coronavirus deaths. According to the research, it is effective in the first 30 days of vaccination. The researches comes at a time when various vaccine candidates are racing between each other to find the ones which could be used to prevent the spread of the virus.

The study was published in one of the journals of non- profit American Association for the Advancement of Science. According to the study, US is the worst- hit country due to the pandemic. It also mentioned that the high fatality rates could have been avoided if the government had instituted mandatory BCG Vaccination several decades ago.

BCG vaccine is generally given at the time of birth to prevent tuberculosis. According to the research, it perhaps helps in developing immunity against other infectious diseases including COVID19. 

However, the researchers did not hail the BCG vaccine as “magic bullet” for curing Covid-19 since they noted that more analysis is required. 

“The BCG vaccine is undergoing phase 3 trial, Zydus Cadila DNA vaccine is in phase I/II trial and 4 vaccine candidates are in advanced stages of pre-clinical study,” Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan announced on Saturday while mentioning that there are 16 vaccine candidates that are currently in different stages of development.
