Instagram app takes more data and time to load? Here comes a relief.

According to reports, Facebook-owned Instagram has announced that it is testing a lightweight Android app named ‘Instagram Lite’ for developing countries. The app takes only 573 kb from the device memory and will run on Android 5.0 Lollipop and the later versions.

Apart from taking less space on the device, the app will also use less data, and start rather quicker, say reports. However, it does not currently allow users to send messages and upload videos. Also, it will not feature IGTV, the company's new long-form video tab.

The app is currently not available in India. It is aimed at developing nations where access to smartphones with higher storage and faster internet is not available. Reportedly, Instagram at an event last week announced that it became the fourth Facebook-owned company to have one billion monthly active users.
