Tirunelveli collector explains what ‘really happened’ in Issakimuthu’s case

After the arrest of cartoonist Bala for his work on the Tirunelveli self-immolation case, the collector of Tirunelveli took to Facebook and explained what really happened. He mentioned that they were asked to meet the respective police station, which Issakimuthu failed to do. He said the couple borrowed money from as much as 10 people to buy land and house on lease. They were also lending loans from the money they borrowed. He said that the actual reason for the family to commit suicide will be found by the police after investigation. Then he said that they have formed a helpline for people who are affected by usury, which can be used to launch complaints. He also took on the cartoonist Bala saying that there has to be a ‘limit’ to freedom of expression and one should not promote baseless allegations.
