Sterlite protest: Plea filed in HC against blocking internet in 3 dist

Internet services have been suspended in Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari after the Tamil Nadu government on Wednesday asked the telecom companies to cut data services due to the unrest in Thoothukudi following the police firing on anti-Sterlite protesters.

An advocate named Surya Prakasam has reportedly filed a petition in the Madras High Court seeking to lift the suspension of internet services in the districts. Justice Bhavani Subbarayan will hear the plea on Thursday afternoon, reports suggest.

Directing the telecom players to suspend internet services till May 27 in the three districts, the government said the move has been taken to stop spreading the messages with ‘half-truth’ on social media.
