A 70-year-old man from Thiruvallur reportedly died on Saturday night as he failed to put off the cigarette that he was smoking. The man, after consuming alcohol reportedly smoked while lying on his bed. As he slept off before putting the cigarette off, his bed caught fire. When his neighbours noticed smoke and fire, they called the ambulance and fire service, who recovered the man's dead body. The man’s body was taken for postmortem.
