Udumalpet dishonour killing: 6 convicts sentenced to death

In the notorious dishonour killing of Udumalpet Shankar, the Tirupur district principal court pronounced double-death sentence, 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 3 lakh for Shankar’s wife Kausalya’s father Chinnasamy, who is the first accused in the case. The court also reportedly sentenced five other convicts - henchmen Jagadeesan, Manikandan, Selvakumar, Kalai Tamilvaanan, Mathan alias Michael - to death. Meanwhile, one of the convicts, Tamil alias Stephen Dhanraj, has been sentenced to double-life term in jail, while Pattiveeranpatti Manikandan gets to serve five years in jail. The court, however, acquitted Kausalya’s mother Annalakshmi, maternal uncle Pandithurai and Prasanna Kumar, giving them the benefit of doubt. The court also reportedly ordered the convicts to pay a compensation of Rs 11.95 lakh to Kausalya and Shankar’s father.
